GEOLOGY

Beyond its rich cultural heritage, Tinos is also distinguished by its geological diversity, which has shaped both its natural landscape and architectural identity. A defining feature is Tinian granite and limestone formations, materials widely used in the island’s architecture and sculpture.

Of particular interest are the megalithic formations of the Volax region, impressive geological monuments that showcase the power of nature over time. Additionally, the historic quarries of the island provided the renowned Tinian marble, a material that influenced artistic and architectural development in both Tinos island and the modern Greek cities.

TVM highlights the geological heritage of the island, focusing on the relationship between natural history and human activity. Through interactive content, videos, and a dedicated exhibit featuring natural rock samples, visitors can explore the geological evolution of Tinos and understand its role in shaping both culture and everyday life on the island.
